THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRAIT EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND INTERACTION WITH OSTRACIZED OTHERS' RETALIATION

Abstract:

This research project aims to investigate the relationship between trait emotional intelligence (EI) and individuals' interaction with ostracized others' retaliation. Ostracism refers to the act of excluding or ignoring individuals within a social group, which can have significant psychological and emotional consequences. Understanding how trait emotional intelligence influences individuals' responses to ostracized others' retaliation can shed light on the role of emotional intelligence in social interactions and conflict resolution.

Trait emotional intelligence is a psychological construct that encompasses an individual's ability to recognize, understand, and manage their own emotions and the emotions of others. It plays a crucial role in interpersonal relationships, empathy, and emotional regulation. Previous research has suggested that individuals with higher levels of trait emotional intelligence may be better equipped to navigate challenging social situations and respond adaptively to interpersonal conflicts.

This research project will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The quantitative phase will involve administering standardized measures of trait emotional intelligence and collecting data on participants' experiences with ostracism and interactions with ostracized others' retaliation. The qualitative phase will consist of in-depth interviews to gain a deeper understanding of individuals' perceptions, emotions, and strategies employed during such interactions.

The research hypothesis posits that individuals with higher levels of trait emotional intelligence will demonstrate more adaptive responses when faced with ostracized others' retaliation. Specifically, it is expected that individuals with higher trait emotional intelligence will exhibit greater empathy, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution skills, leading to more constructive and positive interactions with ostracized individuals. Conversely, individuals with lower trait emotional intelligence may exhibit more negative emotional reactions, defensiveness, and retaliatory behaviors.

The findings of this research project can have implications for understanding the underlying mechanisms of how emotional intelligence influences social interactions, particularly in the context of ostracism and retaliation. It may provide insights into the development of interventions or training programs aimed at improving individuals' emotional intelligence and their ability to manage conflicts and respond effectively to social exclusion.
