THE FABRICATION OF A SINGLE FACE PRESSURIZED KEROSENE COOKER
ABSTRACT
This project is concerned with the fabrication of as a single face pressurized cooker. The pressurized cooker used a wick to supply liquid fuel to the burner by capillary action. The burner vaporized the kerosene in a loop of pipe which rose up from the fuel tank at the Cooker’s base, and which was pre-heated with alcohol (or “methylated spirits”) before being combusted in the burner. Initial pressure is provided by a small, hand operated pump integrated into the Cooker’s fuel tank. The flame on a Primus Cooker is adjusted by using the pump to increase the pressure in the tank to make the flame larger, or by venting the tank to reduce the pressure and make the flame smaller. The report shows the possible way in which the above mentioned can be designed, fabricated and maintained. Its also shows the strength and properties of the materials it is made of. Defects of the equipment can come through inability to maintain and inability to use well.
It can be due to irregular cleaning of pressurized parts, exposure to rain, moisture and sunlight as well as insufficient kerosene and air pressure in the tank before usage. Before fabricating, the properties of materials and kind of material involved are put into consideration. The parts and its functions are described.
THE FABRICATION OF A SINGLE FACE PRESSURIZED KEROSENE COOKER
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
In many developing nations, such as Nigeria, household energy, particularly cooking energy, makes up a large portion of overall energy use. In most tropical countries’ rural areas, wood is still the primary source of energy. Deforestation of broad regions occurs as a result of steadily expanding firewood usage for cooking purposes, posing serious ecological issues. Smoke (Carbon monoxide) produced by incomplete carbon combustion is harmful to individuals and the environment, irritating the eyes and lungs and contributing to air pollution.
The use of electric-cooker is limited mainly due to the inadequate distribution and supply of electricity, especially to the rural areas, similarly the use of solar-cooker and biogas are still limited due to technical and handling problems.
In Nigeria today, kerosene is relatively cheap with respect to cooking gas, and considering the fact that deforestation is not good for the environment, it becomes expedient to design and construct a kerosene pressure-cooker.
In today’s Nigeria, kerosene is a reasonably inexpensive cooking gas, and given that deforestation is bad for the environment, designing and building a kerosene pressure cooker makes sense.
This project was initiated in response to a perceived need for improved cooking, particularly in rural areas where wood, charcoal, rice dust, and other similar fuels are the primary sources of cooking. Better design ideas are used in the suggested pressurised Cooker. They have a higher combustion efficiency, lowering fuel consumption to a larger extent. They can handle the emissions and health risks associated with cooking over open fires or using traditional wood cook burners.
1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
This design was created in response to the current challenges that many Nigerians are facing as a result of intermittent energy supply and ongoing petroleum product scarcity. Firewood cooking’s environmental and health risks were also considered. The various issues with traditional Cookers were also discussed, and this design is intended to address these issues, particularly the sooty flame issue.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES
The aim of this project is to produce a single face pressurized cooker modern that meets general demand in terms of efficiency, affordability, availability, fuel economy and reliability. To achieve all these aims, keeping all the above factors in mind; the following objective are aspects of major concern:
- Demonstrate a cost-effective cooking technique
- To demonstrate a cooker that is both safe for the user and environmentally friendly, i.e. one that uses complete kerosene combustion.
- The cooker should be easy to use and understand.
- The cooker must be safe and simple to use.
- The cooker should be able to generate enough useful heat while consuming the least amount of energy.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
- It would discourage the use of wood as a cooking fuel in the home because it is both affordable and efficient.
- Because the kerosene cylinder is designed to hold a large amount of kerosene that can burn for a longer period of time, it can be used for commercial purposes (restaurants and hotels).
- It does not leave soot on the utensil it is used on because the kerosene is atomized and vaporised, allowing it to burn properly in the presence of oxygen.
- Kerosene is a less expensive and more readily available fuel than cooking gas.
1.5 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
A number of innovative cook Cooker designs have been developed based on the original rocket Cooker. Alternative fuel choices, such as solar-powered cook burners, are being created in large numbers. Another new trend is to design Cookers that generate power.
The project will focus on improving the modern upgraded pressurised cooker to meet the fundamental performance needs of both rural and urban dwellers in developing countries. It will thoroughly examine the affordability, operational costs, maintenance requirements, and combustion efficiency in terms of safety and general cleanliness.
