Abstract

Computer networks are a system of interconnected computers for the purpose of sharing digital information. Two kinds of peers’ relationship are usually considered for reputation management in P2P network. One of them is direct trust relationship that the reputation is got with two peers interacting directly; the other is recommendation trust that the reputation is got by recommendation of the third party. In this paper, we presented an improved trust model based on recommended in P2P environment. In order to weight the transaction reputation and recommendation reputation, we introduced a risk value which resists the influence of false recommendation and collaborative cheating from malicious peers. The global reputation value of target peer can be calculated by using the different portions of transaction reputation, recommendation reputation and risk value

CHAPTER ONE

BACKGROUNG OF THE STUDY

INTRODUCTION

1.1       Introduction

A computer network, or data network, is a digitaltelecommunications network which allows nodes to share resources. In computer networks, networked computing devicesexchange data with each other using a data link. The connections between nodes are established using either cable media or wirelessmedia.

Network computer devices that originate, route and terminate the data are called network nodes. Nodes can include hosts such as personal computers, phones, servers as well as messaging hardware. Two such devices can be said to be networked together when one device is able to exchange information with the other device, whether or not they have a direct connection to each other. In most cases, application-specific communications protocols are layered (i.e. carried as payload) over other more general communications protocols. This formidable collection of information technology requires skilled network management to keep it all running reliably.

The focus of this research lies on Peer-to-peer (P2P) computing or messaging is a distributed application architecture that partitions tasks or workloads between peers. Peers are equally privileged, equipotent participants in the application. They are said to form a peer-to-peer network of nodes.

Peers make a portion of their resources, such as processing power, disk storage or network bandwidth, directly available to other network participants, without the need for central coordination by servers or stable hosts.[1] Peers are both suppliers and consumers of resources, in contrast to the traditional client-server model in which the consumption and supply of resources is divided. Emerging collaborative P2P systems are going beyond the era of peers doing similar things while sharing resources, and are looking for diverse peers that can bring in unique resources and capabilities to a virtual community thereby empowering it to engage in greater tasks beyond those that can be accomplished by individual peers, yet that are beneficial to all the peers.

While P2P systems had previously been used in many application domains,[3] the architecture was popularized by the file sharing system Napster, originally released in 1999. The concept has inspired new structures and philosophies in many areas of human interaction. In such social contexts, peer-to-peer as a meme refers to the egalitariansocial messaging that has emerged throughout society, enabled by Internet technologies in general.

This project will address the following problem

  1. Difficulty in Messaging using peer to peer
  2. Poor network performance while sharing printer
  3. Difficulty in configuring LAN device such as: Switch, Router and printer

 

  • Aim and Objectives Aim

The aim of this project is to design and configure peer –to - peer to share messages, network and printer.

 

  • Objectives

The overall objectives of the project are to:

  1. To Setup LAN network using peer –to-peer
  2. To configure LAN devices on the network such as printer
  3. To share files, Network and computer resources within connected computers.
  • Research Motivation

Messaging plays a vital room in standard organization and promote effective resources and data management. Many research has been carried out over the years on messaging on different machine to enable organization disseminate information without stress and easily. Network has one way other help organization to manage their file and resources confidentially. Although the research seek to configure LAN network on Machine to configure LAN devices with the sole aim of sharing information and computer resources within an organization or office using peer –to –to peer (P2P).

 

  • Outline of Research Methodology

This project Configuration of LAN network using peer to peer technology to configure LAN device such as printer e.t.c will employ the following methodology.

Setup a private LAn network using peer-to-peer form home group, configure the LAN devices and establish file, resources and network sharing between the connected machines. These outline methodologies will be stressed on, in the chapter three.

 

  • Thesis Organization

The remaining part of this project are as follows

Chapter two focuses on review of related literary works on the subject matter i.e. Cryptography. This also include the review of literature on computer messaging. The researcher went ahead to analyze the algorithms by stating the lines and analyzing each based on various criteria.

Chapter three deals with the System analysis and design, it analysis the system pointing out the methods of data collection and the implementation methodology

i.e. collection of tools methods and practices for achieving a task.

Chapter four has to do with the implementation, testing strategies, target computer system requirement, and network maintenance etc.

Chapter five summarizes the research work and also discusses the recommendations and conclusion part of the research work

 

  • Definition of terms

Network: A computer network is a set of computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources. The most common resource shared today is connection to the Internet. Other shared resources can include a printer or a file server.

Server: a server is a computer program or a device that provides functionality for other programs or devices, called "clients". This architecture is called the client– server model, and a single overall computation is distributed across multiple processes or devices

LAN: A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area such as a residence, school, laboratory, university campus or office building.

Client: A client is a piece of computer hardware or software that accesses a service made available by a server.

Computer: A computer is a device that can be instructed to carry out arbitrary sequences of arithmetic or logical operations automatically. The ability of computers to follow generalized sets of operations, called programs, enables them to perform an extremely wide range of tasks.

Operating system: An operating system (OS) is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources and provides common services for computer programs.
