AN IMPACT OF QUR’ANIC RECITATION COMPETETION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF QU’ANIC MEMORIZATION AMONG THE YOUTHS IN KANO, KADUNA AND KATSINA STATES

Abstract:

The study examined the role of Qur’anic recitation competition in the development of memorization of the glorious Qur’an amongst the youthin Kano, Kaduna and Katsina States, the research consists of introduction. The researcher reviewed the preceded worksin competition in general and Qur’anic recitation competition in particular.The position of memorization of the Qur’an among the Muslim Ummah,the contributions ofKuttab toward the development of Qur’anic recitation and the role that Tahfeez system is playing in the development of Qur’anic memorization are also discussed The methodology of the research is outlined. The researcher discussed the view of Muslim scholars on competition in general and Qur’anic recitation competition in particular. The research examined the emergence of Qur’anic recitation competition in Muslim world and introductions of Qur’anic recitation competition in Nigeria. The process through which Qur’anic recitation competitions are carried out in Kano, Kaduna and Katsina has also been described. The researcher also outlined the findings, the research revealed that the recitation competition contributed to the improvement of Qur’anic memorization in rural area in these states and motivated youths to learn and memorize the Quran in urban area. The researcher outlined the summary and recommendations of the research. The researcher ended up with concluding remarks
