Abstract:

This thesis sets out to examine the impact of imperialism indigenous technological Development and how this has caused the present state of Dependency in Nigeria. In the process of this, we examined the importance of indigenous technology in the economic development of Nigeria (and tried to evaluate the same)using Kano as a case study. We found out among others that: there are no concrete government structures (finance, training or provision of tools) in place to incorporate this sector into the mainstream of economic development. this sector provides employment for a substantial percent of the population that would have otherwise been unemployed and by their products have contributed to both local and foreign exchange of Nigeria. Despite these, this sector is abandoned to the will of ” illiterates ” and the rural man. As a result of these we argued that for us indigenous technology aspect of our culture stands out as a tool for sustainable development, hence we suggest that using indigenous technology
