BAMBANCIN HAUSAR KAFI DA DAIDAITACCIYAR HAUSA

Abstract:

This research work was conducted in Keffi; it is an analysis of one of the numerous places that Hausa language has assumed the status of a lingua franca for numerous communities. Hausa in Keffi is a language of trade and commerce, worship, education, communication, entertainment etc for both native and non native speakers of the language. This study was therefore, undertaken to study the nature of the variant Hausa spoken in Keffi with the aim of contrasting its form with the standard Hausa phonologically, morphologically and syntactically. The multi-lingual nature of Kefffi and its environs have pushed the people within to adopt Hausa language as medium for both inter and intra communication purposes. The backgrounds of both native and non native speakers of Hausa in Kefffi have lead to noticeably different or rather variations in phonological, morphological and syntactic formations different from the standard variety of Hausa language. These formations are as results of the influence of mother tongue interference of its various non native speakers and the dynamism or rather uniqueness of Hausa language or what others understood as inherent challenges of the nature of Hausa language, added to that is the conglomeration of Hausa native speakers from different parts of Hausaland. Chapter one of this research which is an introduction contained a detailed background of the research, brief history of the formation of Keffi, significance of the research and raised research questions and hypothesis. Chapter two reviewed the relavant literature for this study starting from what language is, its relationships with dialect and accent, why do we have variations in language, the need and its significance of its, ways of studying language variations, language standardization, Hausa outside the mother area, processes of studying language variations. The chapter also reviewed phonological processes like; assimilation, insertion, deletion, coalescence, palatalization, liabilization, vowel harmony, etc. Chapter three of this research work carried the phonological variations that are found to exist between standard Hausa and that of Keffi. Findings from this chapter include deglottalization of some consonant sounds, monothongization, deliabilization etc. Chapter four of the work is the study of the variation of the Keffi Hausa with that of the standard variety on the basis of morphosyntactic processes. Also findings from this chapter have revealed that the variety that exist in Kafi shows violation of the standard Hausa intonation rules, tense and gender deletion in word classes of possession, genitival complex, stabilizer and some insertion of some elements in some sentences. Finally, chapter five carries the summary of the research report along side conclusion and recommendation.
