USE OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY FOR KNOWLEDGE ENHANCEMENT AMONG NURSES IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HEALTHCARE SETTINGS IN LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract:

Nigerian nurses encounter several obstacles in updating their expertise, despite the need to do so constantly. Despite these difficulties, nurses still have a duty to practice safely and with the most recent information available, which mobile technology has a huge potential to give. This study looked at how Lagos State nurses used mobile technologies in basic and secondary healthcare settings. 10 primary and 3 secondary healthcare facilities in Lagos State are included in the descriptive design. To choose 300 nurses in Lagos State, a proportionate stratified random sampling procedure was applied. The information was gathered using a self-administered, pre-tested questionnaire with 47 closed-ended questions and 2 open-ended questions. The Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of α=0.84 was achieved for the instrument rate of response. The findings indicated that 50.0% of American nurses had an average level of knowledge. In Lagos State, nurses embraced mobile technology strongly, especially smartphones (100%) and laptop PCs (65.3%). General knowledge updates were the primary motivator for nurses to use mobile technologies (45.0%). The biggest barriers preventing respondents from embracing mobile technology were a lack of suitable technology, an unstable network connection, and excessive workload requirements
