CUSTOMIZED AES USING PAD AND CHAFF TECHNIQUE AND DIFFIE HELLMAN KEY EXCHANGE

ABSTRACT

With the ever-increasing human dependency on the Internet for performing various activities such as banking, shopping or transferring money, there equally exists a need for safe and secure transactions. This needs a system that automatically translates to the requirement of increased network security and better and fast encryption algorithms. This system addresses the above issue by introducing a novel methodology by utilizing the Advanced Encryption  Standard (AES) method of encryption. This project propose a secure text encryption algorithm using an enhanced version of Diffe-Hellman and AES. By improving the Diffie-Hellman key exchange Algorithm can help in generating a secret key that is highly secure and this key is used in the AES algorithm to perform the encryption and decryption operations on a text. The proposed algorithm is implemented in Java and the results are discussed along with a possible explanation.

CHAPTER I

General Introduction

1.1 Introduction

Computer Systems offer great flexibility and improved productivity for users. However, they can also create added risk and potential targets for data loss. Messages are sent from the source to the destination with great ease. However,  the files that are stored in the local system may not be safe as there is no guarantee  that such  files cannot be accessed by an intruder. Considering the risk factors with data stored in database, developing a windows application with data encryption mechanism will avoid misuse of user’s data.

In order to solve the above problem, customized  Advanced Encryption  Standard  (AES) using Pad and Chaff technique and Diffie Hellman Key Exchange application is introduced.  Encryption is one of the techniques for providing security for the data that has been sent by the sender. There will be different algorithms used in order to achieve the encryption of the data. This application makes use of Pad and Chaff technique and Diffie Hellman Key Exchange for the encryption purpose. Before sending the message the user needs to select the particular algorithm like AES. Then the message will be encrypted through the use of such algorithms. The key will be sent to the destination in order to decrypt the message.

This will be one of the interesting applications that one can work on and implement in real time world with great ease. People can rely on this application with great ease through the use of this application. The encryption can be done easily through this application. The user interface will be simple and easy to understand even by the common man. The information that is confidential might be stolen through such attacks. The features that can be included in the customized AES using Pad and Chaff technique and Diffie Hellman Key Exchange application

1.2  Statement of the Problem

One of the main problems that Cryptography tries to solve involves in making communication taking place over an insecure channel safe from unauthorized access. This problem gives rise to the need for a key exchange algorithm that can be used to exchange keys securely over an insecure channel. But sharing the key to the other party over a large teleprocessing network can be costly and time-consuming [1] . This is where Diffie-Hellman came into the picture with the purpose of making two parties exchange a session key[2] which will be then be used in other symmetric encryption algorithms, in our case AES. Despite being widely used Diffie-Hellman is prone to various attacks like Man-in-middle, plain-text, and others. So, we’ve proposed an algorithm which is an update to the Diffie-Hellman algorithm for generating a highly secure key which can defend against the mentioned attacks above and we then use this key to perform encryption and decryption of the text using AES.

1.3  Objectives of Study

The main objective of this study is to develop a customized AES using Pad and Chaff technique and Diffie Hellman Key Exchange application.

Other objectives of this study include:

  1. To identify vulnerabilities and issues of data encrypted using AES algorithms
  2. To analyze functionalities provided by AES Algorithms
  3. To construct one hybrid encryption technique for data security using AES.
  4. To evaluate enhancement of data security provided by Pad and Chaff technique and Diffie Hellman Key Exchange application.

1.4 Scope of the study

This research is going to  develop a High security customized AES encryption  sing Pad and Chaff technique and Diffie Hellman Key Exchange application. This study is based on organizations which have the option of storing and transmitting data. Theoretically the study will cover the attributes of identification, analysis, and construction of both technique to secure data.

1.5 Significance of the Study
Projects provide a flexible framework for engaging students in exploring curricular topics and developing important 21st century skills, such as communication, teamwork, and technology skills. In addition, students are motivated by the fun and creative format and the opportunity to make new friends around the world.

1.6 Limitation of the Research
Usually, every work has some limitations and this study is not exempted. The two major limitations of this study are the high programming technique as well as financial constraints. The high programming technique constraint in AES encryption prevents the researcher to have an in depth study and analysis on the subject matter. While the issue of financial constraint limits the frequency of investigation to/from the institution toward gathering the necessary information relevant for the study.
