CANTEEN FOOD ORDERING AND MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

The main objective of online canteen food ordering and management system is to automate the existing manual system with the help of advance computerized software so, that valuable data can be stored for longer period with easy accessing and manipulation of the same.
The registered user can access the account with valid credentials. User can surf the food items according to categories, Cart and online payment options are available to user. User can track their orders with the food details.
In Canteen Food Ordering and management System Admin can handle the functionalities like add new food items, edit/delete food items, Enable/Disable the food items according to season and availability. Admin have authority to view order details and update the delivery status of food. The payment transaction and user details are also viewable to admin.

This canteen food ordering and management system system enables the end users to register online, read and select the food from the e-menu card and order food online by just selecting the food that the user want to have. The results after selecting the food from the E-menu card will directly appear in the screen near the chef who is going to cook the food for you. The system is the combination of android, iOS, as well as web application.

The tools used in developing this system includes PHP, CSS, JavaScript. HTML, MySQL. HP laptop.

 

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1    Overview

 

Computers have become a part of the life for accessing almost any kind of information. Life in the 21st century is full of technological advancement and this technological age it is very difficult for any organization to survive without utilizing technology. The world wide web contributes greatly to the creation of an ever-increasing global information database. It could also be used as a mechanism to share information within an enterprise.

In today’s age of fast food and takeout, many canteens have chosen to focus on quick preparation and speedy delivery of orders rather than offering a rich dining experience. Until very recently, all these delivery orders were placed to the waiters over the phone, but there are many disadvantages to this system, including the inconvenience of the customer needing to have a physical copy of the menu, lack of a visual confirmation that the order was placed correctly, and the necessity of the canteen to have an employee answering the phone and taking orders. What, I propose is a canteen automation system, which is a technique of ordering foods online applicable in any food delivery industry. The main advantage of this system is that it greatly simplifies the ordering process for both the customer and the canteen.

The project is developing because; many Canteens/restaurants have a lot difficult to manage the business such as customer ordering and reservation table. If the customer book an order and later wants to cancel the order, he is permitted to do this only within a specific time period. By using manual customer ordering it is difficult for the waiter to keep the correct customer information and may lose the customer information. The customer is also given the facility to view the status of the order to determine if it is ready..

Online Restaurant management system is the system for manage the restaurant business. After successful login the customer can access the menu page with the items listed according to the desired time. The main point of developing this system is to help restaurant administrator manage the restaurant business and help customer for online ordering and reserve table. In proposed system user can search for a menu according to his choice i.e. according to price range and category of food and later he can order a meal.

1.2            Statement of the Problem

Nowadays, many Canteens/restaurants manage their business by manual especially take customer ordering. . In traditional booking system, a customer has to go to restaurant or make a phone call in order to get his meal reserved. Today, restaurant waiter takes the customer ordering by manual system with using paper. Customer does some formal conversation like hello, hi, etc. Than he demands for today’s menu and do some discussion over menu items then he orders. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to book the order and waiter book the order on paper so there is probability of lost and duplication of customer information. Restaurant management system puts the order in a queue with specific priority according to time and quantity, and then a cook is assigned for the specific order to complete it. Besides, the restaurant waiter information also by manual system kept use paper and this is difficult for restaurant administrator to find waiter information, probability missing the paper and difficult to arrange the schedule. Initial problem is that the customer has to get connected over the phone; it would be harder if the restaurant is very popular and busy. Sometimes, waiter information and customer information is important to restaurant administrator for reference in the future. The chances of committing mistakes at the restaurant side in providing a menu list for a specific time would be more.

Many people have experienced going to a restaurant where the service is poor and there is a lack of attention from the wait staff. The paper menus can be flimsy, hard to navigate, and outdated. To leverage the growing mobile industry, the on –line restaurant proffers solution. This restaurant menu and management system will replace the paper waste, is more maintainable, and allows for greater customer engagement.

 

1.3  Aim and Objectives

The aim of this project is to develop an Online Canteen food ordering and management system.

And it is achieved based on the following objectives:

  • To design and develop a web application for rapid food ordering to be used by the canteen customers.
  • To implement and test the web application for food ordering in a canteen.

 

1.4 Significance of the Project

The study provides a structural appraisal of the Documentation for on line canteen management system as a framework for enhancing the development and growth of on-line canteen management system. The current system is not computerized thus the system will be developed in order to help the management team run the  effectively and efficiently. By comparing the manual system in place, the new system will break down the complexity of retrieving, updating and interpreting data and this will only be possible by coming up with a systematic database where information will be stored and thus generating reports will be easy. Therefore anybody in a position to access the system, of which not just anybody, but authorized persons will have an easy time doing so. Without the system in place files will be accessible to anyone. To make sure the right people get to access the system passwords will be implemented. Without the computerized system in place the management of the hotel will not be able to take timely orders and provide timely services all together since the system is also meant to break down the complexity of retrieving ,updating and interpreting data.

1.5 Limitations of the study

Among the many reasons that will hinder this research one of them would include users of the newly proposed system not being conversant with computers. In this sector most people or potential end users are only equipped with knowledge concerning Hotels or rather food and beverages. This means for the system to be in place and work effectively and efficiently, the end users must be compacted with basic knowledge on Computers and how the system works.

Among the many attributes of man, Man is resistant to change and trying to convince the management to adopt the new system will pause an expected challenge.

 

1.6 Scope/Project Organization

 

This project is presented in five chapters:

  • Chapter 1: This chapter provides the whole project with an introduction and history. An exploration of the current and prevailing situation, the issues and an outline of the proposed solution have been recorded in this section.
  • Chapter 2: A summary of the previous literary works, paper, and documentation on Online Canteen food ordering and management system.
  • Chapter 3: The third chapter records the study process of systems, specifications of requirements and the design phase of systems for this project.
  • Chapter 4: This chapter documents the final results of this project. These findings include: The full and implemented framework, screenshots of the interface, different test cases and test results, and other required system-related documents, such as hardware and software specifications.
  • Chapter 5: This chapter outlines the overview of this project, with relevant and critical recommendations.

References and appendices are included in the concluding part of this documentation.
