ABSTRACT

Throughout this project, we shall focus on every component needed for assembling a computer system and its functions. The main reason why people go for the assembly of a system instead of buying a new one is to allow them to have a good and satisfactory quality of what they want. Buying a new computer system might not solve the problem for some people, but buying it themselves eases their wounds when it comes to satisfaction. The main importance of coupling a computer system is to have access to all those components and to know how to couple and disassemble it when the system is faulty.

 

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY

Building and assembling a computer system gives maximum satisfaction to the user and is a very rewarding experience. To assemble a desktop PC (personal computer), the users or builders of such systems are probably contemplating building or assembling a computer instead of purchasing one pre-built or pre-assembled. This project is to enlighten us on how computer students can build a computer and set up a peer-to-peer network with less stress and a reduced amount of money, and how the computer built can meet the processing requirements of the school laboratory. This research has managed to purchase the sub-assembly computer components and couple them to make a computer system that could rival the performance of the branded version.

Building the computer system in this research involves gathering different components and devices of a computer system together to create a well-functioning computer system. Thus, this project will cover all the processes of purchasing components, coupling, and the installation of the operating system (OS) into the computer system. Building or assembling a Pentium IV computer brings significant benefits, which are identified below.

  1. Knowledge about computer components and how they fit and work together.
  2. Understanding the internal and hardware workings of a computer

1.2 MOTIVATION

My motivation grew from the desire to understand the functions of every component of the computer and to be able to build a functioning computer system that can be used in any school laboratory.

1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The main objective is to build a well-functioning computer with the purpose of:

  1. Identifying computer components and how they fit and work together.
  2. Understanding the internal and hardware workings of a computer.

iii. Learning computer hardware terminology and technical jargon.

  1. Ability to customize a computer according to specialized specifications.
  2. Building and assembling a computer system from components.
  3. The satisfaction of a job well done.

vii. Gaining technical problem-solving ability.

viii. Reducing the cost of buying a new computer system.

1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The scope of this research is to demonstrate how a computer system can be purchased in parts, assembled, and installed with the required software to match a given configuration for use in the laboratory.

1.5 EXPECTED CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE

The study is expected to emphasize the fact that a computer is made up of several components functioning together as a single unit. It will enable us to understand that hardware cannot operate on its own to form a computer without software being installed. It will also help us comprehend the functionality of the human-computer system.
