ABSTRACT

The study’s objectives were met by formulating and responding to five (4) research questions that examined the information behavior of adolescent girls with dysmenorrhea. Some of the research questions aimed to find out what the information needs of adolescent females with dysmenorrhea in Uyo Local Government are, what sources of information adolescent females with dysmenorrhea in Uyo Local Government consult to manage the condition, and what reasons adolescent females with dysmenorrhea do not access sources of information they believe to be crucial. An approach known as the qualitative methodology was used to address the study issues. The methodology was selected because it offers a structure for identifying phenomena from the perspective of the players. Additionally, it offered a systematic approach to data. In-depth interviews were performed to gather information from 15 rural female teenagers in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, who complained of dysmenorrhea symptoms. Uyo Local Government Area. Thematic analysis was used to evaluate the data because it allowed the researcher to find, examine, and understand patterns in the participant data. The research’s findings showed, among other things, that adolescent girls need the knowledge to get over discomforts, psychological disorders, and the inability to carry out traditional duties An approach known as a qualitative methodology was used to address the study issues. The methodology was selected because it offers a framework related to dysmenorrhea; the most favored information sources are human relationships (family and friends). Inhibition (shyness, secretiveness, and humiliation), financial constraints, and lack of spouse consent are reasons people who suffer from dysmenorrhea do not seek medical advice. In order to reduce shyness about concerns associated with dysmenorrhea, recommendations were given, including the necessity for government and health experts to build a synergistic partnership capable of offering a particular information distribution program to deserving beneficiaries. Adult males should be among the target audiences when planning the dysmenorrhea information program, so that health information specialists and other stakeholders may tell them about the effects and treatment options.
