DESIGN AND IMPLEMENATION OF AN ONLINE EXAMINATION AND TRANSCRIPT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
ABSTRACT
The purpose of online examination system using ASP.NET is to take online examination by students at any time from any part of the world in an efficient and systematic manner. It does not waste time on checking the paper manually it checks the paper online when he clicks the end test button the result will immediately display over the screen. The main aim of online examination system using ASP.NET and SQL Server give the result very fast. If the power goes between the examination, the examination will start from where he left the examination, it does not start examination from start this is the hallmark of this system. The students can give test according to their convenience and time from anywhere and there is no need of using extra thing like paper, pen etc.
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
Online examination and transcript management system are fast gaining ground as an accepted and used learning paradigm. Many school institutions are implementing web sites providing functionality for performing Examinations over the web. It is reasonable to say that the process of learning on the web is becoming commonplace. Online examination system is an online test stimulator to take online examination, test in an efficient manner and no time wasting for manually checking of the exams or test paper. The main objective of this web based online examination system is to efficiently evaluate the student thoroughly through a fully automated system that not only saves lot of time but also gives fast and accurate result. The major objective of this project is to develop an online examination and transcript management system for students whereby exams or tests and transcript can be created printed and conducted online so as to ensure that E-learning students need not travel for long distances so as to sit for their examination and to print or get their transcript. There are several researches and projects focused on developing better ways to manage exams systems and e-learning system. Some of these researches focused on various sections of the system and these includes Schramm (2008) looked at e-learning web based system that could simply offers and grades mathematical questions with infinite continued existence. Therefore it needs the capability for in and output of mathematical formulas, the dynamic generation of plots and the generation of random expressions and numbers. The idea of the generic software is to present an empty templates to the teacher who would like to develop his required Online exam for the needful topic (mathematics, language, science, etc) and desired set of exam kinds (multiple choices, matching between words, fill in blanks, etc). Web-based Examination System is an effective solution for mass education evaluation (Zhenming et al, 2003). They developed a novel online examination system based on a Browser/Server framework which carries out the examination and auto-grading for objective questions and operating questions, such as programming, operating Microsoft Windows, editing Microsoft Word , Excel and PowerPoint, etc. It has been successfully applied to the distance evaluation of basic operating skills of computer science, such as the course of computer skills in
Universities and the nationwide examination for the high school graduates in Zhejiang Province, China. Another paper (He, 2006) presents a web-based educational assessment system by applying Bloom’s taxonomy to evaluate student learning outcomes and teacher instructional practices in real time. The system performance is rather encouraging with experimentation in science and mathematics courses of two local high schools. Another paper proposed web based online examination system (Rashad et al, 2010). The system carries out the examination and auto-grading for students exams. The system facilitates conducting exams, collection of answers, auto marking the submissions and production of reports for the test. It supports many kinds of questions. It was used via Internet and is therefore suitable for both local and remote examination. The system could help lecturers, instructors, teachers and others who are willing to create new exams or edit existing ones as well as students participating in the exams. The system was built using. Various open source technologies PHP, XAMPP HTML and MYSQL database are used in this system. An auto-grading module was generalized to enable different exam and question types. The system was tested in the Mansoura university quality assurance center. The test proved the validity of using this kind of web based systems for evaluates students in the institutions with high rate of students. An online website for tutoring and online examination of economic course aimed to present a novel software tool can be used for online examination and tutorial application of the syllabus of economic course (EL Emary and Al Sondos, 2006). Also, among the main interests of the paper is to produce a software through it we make sure that students have studied all the concepts of economics. So, the proposed software is structured from two major modules: The first one was an online website to review and make self-test for all the material of economic courses.
1.2 Statement of The Problem
This project was designed for schools with too many students , hence this project was design in order to track problem such as misplacement of student exams, records, student’s grades, slow and strenuous accessibility to students report and record, inaccurate record keeping and poor information management within the department.
Problems Associated With The Existing System:
The existing system has so many problems which include Time consuming, Results are not sometimes usually not accurate since compilation and calculations of result are done manually, taken exams of more candidates more invigilators are required but no need of invigilators in case of online examination and there is high chances of paper leakage .Misplacement of student grade record due to the manual systems, slow retrieval of records and report of students and bulkiness and heaviness of records files.
The Proposed System:
The proposed system i.e. online exams and transcript system saves time, saves exams and result information in database, reduction in bulkiness of records and files, provide good efficient database to avoid misplacement of student record and data, record and reports of students will be easily retrieved with increased data security, provide good network services and power supply to avoid disruptions during the exams and provide available computers and other hardware devices to the student.

The general objective of Online Examination System and Transcript Management System is to create a platform for online creation, actual sitting, marking of exams and computing result. b) Specific Objectives
- To develop a system that will enables the Admin to create subjects to be undertaken by students.
- To create a system that will enables the Admin to create exams. iii) To develop a system that will enables the Admin to create students id.
- To create a system that will enables the Admin to create Questions to be undertaken by students.
- To implement a system that will enables the Admin to manage exam results.
- To develop a system that will ensures exams are marked and compute their result correctly.
- To implement a system that will enables students to check their result online.
1.4 Significance of the Study to the University
This research work is greatly hoped to eliminate the manual way of writing examination in
Universities.

1.5 Scope and the Limitation of the Study
The scope of the project includes the designing of an online exam and transcript management system with the requirements similar to those of our institute or whose requirements can be converted to those being handled by this system. This system can be used for any time exams and transcript work, and for the course of this study it is for academic purpose only.
No research work can be carried out without certain constraints either in form of finance or
logistics.
