PREFACE

The use of waste material for visual expression in contemporary art is such that has brought a remarkable advance in process and meaning of art, particularly in sculpture. Waste is one common thing that the human society produces in large quantity and in every second of the day. Using waste as art material goes beyond recycling but it also connects with both the artist and the viewers by giving them the opportunity to reflect on their life style.

This project centres on the use of discarded tyres for visual expression. The studio procedures involved in the exploration of these tyres are variegated and novel. This is a report on the exploration and it starts with chapter one which is the introduction. Chapter two contains the review of relevant literature and art practice. Chapter three, on the other hand, focuses on the various methods, materials, tools and studio procedures involved in generating the works, while chapter four describes some of the works produced in the studio. Chapter five contains the images and analyses of the works in produced in the exploration, with the conclusion of the project as chapter six.
