ABSTRACT

The search for effective and sustainable antimicrobial agents from natural sources has gained significant attention in recent years. Icacina trichanthaOliv, a widely distributed plant in tropical regions, has shown promising bioactive properties. This study focuses on the antimicrobial evaluation of leaf extract derived from Icacina trichantha Oliv, with the aim of assessing its potential as a natural antimicrobial agent. Fresh leaves of Icacina trichantha Oliv were collected, dried, and subjected to extraction using standard procedures. The resulting extract was evaluated for antimicrobial activity against a panel of clinically relevant microorganisms, including bacteria (both Gram-positive and Gram-negative) and fungi. The antimicrobial activity was determined using agar well diffusion and broth microdilution methods. Additionally, phytochemical profiling was conducted to identify potential bioactive compounds present in the extract. The leaf extract of Icacina trichantha Oliv exhibited significant antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. The extract demonstrated notable inhibitory effects against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including drug-resistant strains, as well as pathogenic fungi.
