INVESTIGATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF INDIRECT TEACHING METHODS IN TEACHING WATER SAFETY SKILLS

Abstract:
Water safety skills are essential for individuals of all ages to prevent accidents and promote personal safety in aquatic environments. Traditional teaching methods often rely on direct instruction and demonstration. However, alternative approaches, such as indirect teaching methods, have gained attention due to their potential to enhance learning outcomes. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of indirect teaching methods in teaching water safety skills.

The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. A sample of participants, including both children and adults, will be selected to participate in the study. The participants will be divided into two groups: one group will receive water safety instruction through traditional direct teaching methods, while the other group will receive instruction using indirect teaching methods.

Quantitative data will be collected through pre- and post-tests to assess participants’ knowledge and skills in water safety. The tests will include scenarios and assessments covering various aspects of water safety, such as recognizing hazards, using safety equipment, and performing rescue techniques. The data will be analyzed using statistical methods to compare the learning outcomes between the two groups.

Qualitative data will be collected through interviews and observations to gain insights into participants’ experiences and perceptions of the teaching methods. These data will provide a deeper understanding of the factors influencing the effectiveness of indirect teaching methods in teaching water safety skills.

The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on teaching methodologies in water safety education. It will provide evidence-based insights into the effectiveness of indirect teaching methods and their potential to improve learning outcomes in the context of water safety. The results may inform the development of more engaging and effective instructional strategies for teaching water safety skills, benefiting individuals, communities, and educational institutions involved in water safety education.
