INVESTIGATING THE EFFECTS OF AEROBIC TRAINING ON CARDIORESPIRATORY ENDURANCE IN NIGERIAN SOCCER PLAYERS.

Abstract:

Background: Cardiorespiratory endurance is a critical component of soccer performance, as it directly influences a player’s ability to sustain high-intensity exercise throughout a match. Aerobic training has been widely recognized as an effective method for improving cardiorespiratory endurance in athletes. However, there is limited research specifically focusing on Nigerian soccer players, who face unique physiological and environmental challenges. This study aims to investigate the effects of aerobic training on cardiorespiratory endurance in Nigerian soccer players.

Methods: A pre-test/post-test experimental design will be employed, involving a sample of Nigerian soccer players aged 18-30 years. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the experimental group (aerobic training) or the control group (no training). Baseline measurements of cardiorespiratory endurance will be obtained using standardized tests such as the Yo-Yo intermittent recovery test or the 20-meter shuttle run test. The experimental group will undergo a supervised aerobic training program, consisting of regular sessions of moderate- to high-intensity aerobic exercises over a specified period, while the control group will maintain their regular training routines. Post-training measurements will be taken, and the results will be compared between the two groups.

Results: It is hypothesized that the experimental group will demonstrate significant improvements in cardiorespiratory endurance compared to the control group. The improvements will be assessed based on variables such as maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max), time to exhaustion, and recovery heart rate. Statistical analysis, including t-tests or analysis of variance (ANOVA), will be conducted to determine the significance of the findings.

Conclusion: This study aims to provide valuable insights into the effects of aerobic training on cardiorespiratory endurance in Nigerian soccer players. The findings may contribute to the development of evidence-based training programs tailored to the specific needs of Nigerian soccer players, considering their physiological and environmental factors. Improving cardiorespiratory endurance can potentially enhance the players’ performance, reduce fatigue, and minimize the risk of injuries during matches. The research outcomes could benefit athletes, coaches, and sports scientists involved in soccer training and performance enhancement in Nigeria and other similar contexts.
