RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRINCIPALS’ MOTIVATIONAL TECHNIQUES AND SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ ATTITUDE TO WORK IN ANAMBRA STATE
Abstract:
This study aims to explore the relationship between principals' motivational techniques and secondary school teachers' attitudes towards work in Anambra State, Nigeria. The motivation of teachers is crucial for creating a conducive learning environment and achieving educational goals. Principals play a vital role in promoting teacher motivation, job satisfaction, and overall productivity. Understanding the impact of principals' motivational techniques on teachers' attitudes can provide valuable insights for educational policymakers and administrators.
A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The quantitative phase will involve administering a structured questionnaire to a sample of secondary school teachers in Anambra State, assessing their attitudes towards work and perceptions of principals' motivational techniques. The qualitative phase will consist of in-depth interviews with a subset of teachers to gain a deeper understanding of their perspectives and experiences.
The research will investigate various motivational techniques employed by principals, including recognition and rewards, professional development opportunities, participatory decision-making, and supportive leadership styles. Teachers' attitudes towards work will be assessed in terms of job satisfaction, commitment, engagement, and intention to leave the profession. Statistical analyses, such as correlation and regression, will be used to determine the relationships between principals' motivational techniques and teachers' attitudes.
The findings of this study are expected to provide empirical evidence on the relationship between principals' motivational techniques and teachers' attitudes towards work in Anambra State. It is anticipated that positive and supportive motivational techniques employed by principals will be associated with higher levels of teacher job satisfaction, commitment, engagement, and lower intentions to leave the profession. These findings can inform educational policies and interventions aimed at improving teacher motivation and, consequently, the quality of education in Anambra State.
