ACCEPTANCE OF SMARTPHONE TECHNOLOGY AS MOBILE LEARNING TOOL AMONG COLLEGES OF EDUCATION STUDENTS IN NIGERIA
Abstract:
The rapid advancement of smartphone technology has provided new opportunities for mobile learning and has the potential to revolutionize the educational landscape. This study aims to investigate the acceptance of smartphone technology as a mobile learning tool among Colleges of Education students in Nigeria. The study will focus on understanding the factors that influence students' acceptance of smartphones for educational purposes and explore the challenges and benefits associated with integrating smartphones into the learning process.
The research will adopt a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The sample will consist of students from different Colleges of Education across Nigeria, representing diverse backgrounds and educational disciplines. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) will serve as the theoretical framework to assess students' perceptions and attitudes towards smartphone technology as a mobile learning tool.
The quantitative phase will involve distributing a structured questionnaire to the participants, which will measure their perceptions of smartphone technology, perceived usefulness, ease of use, and intention to use smartphones for educational purposes. Data analysis will be conducted using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis to examine the relationships between the variables.
Additionally, the qualitative phase will employ in-depth interviews to gain deeper insights into the students' experiences, motivations, and challenges related to the adoption of smartphones as a mobile learning tool. Thematic analysis will be utilized to identify recurring themes and patterns in the interview data.
The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on mobile learning in the Nigerian context and provide valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and technology developers. Understanding the factors that influence students' acceptance of smartphones as a mobile learning tool can inform the design and implementation of effective strategies to promote the integration of smartphones into educational settings.
It is anticipated that this research will highlight the potential benefits of smartphone technology in enhancing the learning experience, such as increased accessibility to educational resources, personalized learning opportunities, and improved engagement. Moreover, the study will shed light on the challenges and barriers that need to be addressed, including issues of affordability, connectivity, digital literacy, and pedagogical adaptation.
By investigating the acceptance of smartphone technology as a mobile learning tool among Colleges of Education students in Nigeria, this study aims to pave the way for a more informed and effective integration of smartphones into the educational system, ultimately contributing to the advancement of education in the digital era.
