DOCUMENT SELECTION IN DIGITIZATION AS PREDICTOR OF RESEARCH PUBLICATION VISIBILITY IN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES WITHIN KANO STATE
Abstract:
In the digital age, academic libraries play a crucial role in supporting research and scholarly activities by providing access to a wide range of resources. With the advent of digitization, libraries have undergone a transformation in how they manage and disseminate scholarly information. However, the process of document selection during digitization poses a significant challenge in ensuring the visibility and accessibility of research publications within academic libraries.
This study aims to investigate the impact of document selection in digitization as a predictor of research publication visibility in academic libraries within Kano State. The research focuses on understanding the criteria and strategies employed by librarians and information professionals during the digitization process and its subsequent impact on the visibility of research publications.
The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Qualitative data will be gathered through interviews and focus group discussions with librarians, information professionals, and researchers within academic libraries in Kano State. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys administered to the same target group.
The research will explore various factors influencing document selection during digitization, including relevance, quality, authority, and demand from library users. Additionally, it will investigate the challenges faced by librarians in selecting and prioritizing research publications for digitization, such as copyright restrictions, limited resources, and technological constraints.
Furthermore, the study will examine the visibility and accessibility of digitized research publications within academic libraries and assess their impact on research dissemination and scholarly communication. It will analyze the usage statistics, citation rates, and user feedback to determine the effectiveness of document selection in enhancing the visibility and discoverability of research publications.
The findings of this research will contribute to the existing literature on digitization in academic libraries and provide insights into the role of document selection as a predictor of research publication visibility. The results will be valuable for librarians, information professionals, and policymakers in Kano State, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding the digitization process and optimize the visibility and accessibility of research publications within academic libraries.
