ABSTRACT

This research project aims to investigate the impacts of synergy and collaboration between institutions and industry as a panacea to the development of a quality Office Technology and Management (OTM) curriculum in polytechnics. The effective alignment of educational institutions with industry needs is crucial for the development of relevant and up-to-date curricula that prepare students for the demands of the workplace. This study seeks to explore the impacts of synergy and collaboration between polytechnics and industry in the development of a quality OTM curriculum.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and statistical analysis to collect data from stakeholders, including faculty members, industry professionals, administrators, and OTM students. The research objectives include assessing the current level of synergy and collaboration between polytechnics and industry in the development of the OTM curriculum, exploring the impacts of industry involvement on curriculum development, evaluating the effectiveness of industry input in enhancing students’ employability skills, and identifying recommendations for strengthening and expanding collaboration for curriculum improvement.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the impacts of synergy and collaboration between institutions and industry in the development of a quality OTM curriculum. The research will assess the current level of synergy and collaboration, examining factors such as industry advisory boards, internships, guest lectures, curriculum review committees, and industry-sponsored projects. It will explore the impacts of industry involvement on curriculum development, including the relevance of course content, integration of practical skills, incorporation of emerging trends and technologies, and alignment with industry standards. The study will also evaluate the effectiveness of industry input in enhancing students’ employability skills, such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, leadership, and adaptability. Additionally, the research will identify recommendations for strengthening and expanding collaboration, considering factors such as industry partnerships, faculty-industry exchange programs, curriculum review mechanisms, and industry-sponsored research and development initiatives.
