THE ASSESSMENT OF QUALITY OF OTM PROGRAMME IN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION TOWARDS MEETING ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT NEEDS OF BENUE STATE

ABSTRACT 

This research project aims to assess the quality of the Office Technology and Management (OTM) programme in colleges of education in Benue State, with a focus on its effectiveness in meeting the entrepreneurship development needs of the state. The OTM programme equips students with practical skills and knowledge in office administration, communication, technology, and entrepreneurship. Evaluating the quality of the programme is essential to ensure its alignment with the evolving needs of entrepreneurship development in Benue State.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining surveys, interviews, and quantitative analysis of data to collect information from students, faculty members, and relevant stakeholders in the colleges of education. The research objectives include assessing the curriculum content and delivery of the OTM programme, exploring the extent to which it addresses entrepreneurship development needs, identifying strengths and weaknesses of the programme, and suggesting strategies for improvement.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the quality of the OTM programme in colleges of education and its effectiveness in meeting entrepreneurship development needs in Benue State. The research will assess the curriculum content and delivery methods, examining whether they cover relevant topics, incorporate practical experiences, and align with industry requirements. It will explore the extent to which the programme addresses entrepreneurship development needs in terms of fostering entrepreneurial mindset, developing business management skills, promoting innovation and creativity, and preparing students for self-employment and small business ventures. The study will also identify strengths and weaknesses of the OTM programme, considering factors such as faculty expertise, instructional resources, industry partnerships, and student outcomes. Additionally, the research will suggest strategies for improving the quality of the programme, such as curriculum revision, faculty development programs, industry collaborations, and entrepreneurship support services.

The implications of this research extend to colleges of education, faculty members, students, policymakers, and stakeholders in Benue State. The findings will provide colleges of education with insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the OTM programme and guide them in enhancing its quality to better meet the entrepreneurship development needs of the state. Faculty members can benefit from the research outcomes by identifying areas for improvement in curriculum design and instructional practices. Students will gain an understanding of the relevance and effectiveness of the OTM programme in preparing them for entrepreneurship. Policymakers and stakeholders can utilize the research findings to inform policy decisions, allocate resources, and develop initiatives that promote entrepreneurship education and support in Benue State.
