EFFECT OF INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO ON PRACTICAL AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE ACHIEVEMENT AMONG GENDER IN GOMBE STATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of instructional videos on practical agricultural science achievement among genders in Gombe State secondary schools. The study recognized the importance of agricultural science education in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and sought to explore the potential of instructional videos as a teaching tool to enhance students' achievement in this subject.

The study employed a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design, with a sample of secondary school students from Gombe State. The participants were divided into two groups: an experimental group exposed to instructional videos during their agricultural science classes, and a control group who received traditional classroom instruction without videos. Both groups were pretested and posttested using an achievement test specifically designed for this study.

The. results of the study indicated that the use of instructional videos had a significant positive effect on the practical agricultural science achievement of both male and female students. The experimental group, which utilized instructional videos, showed higher mean scores in the posttest compared to the control group. This suggests that instructional videos can enhance students' understanding and retention of practical agricultural science concepts and skills.

Furthermore, gender-based analysis revealed that the effect of instructional videos on achievement was consistent across genders, with both male and female students benefiting from the use of videos. This finding challenges traditional gender stereotypes in agricultural science education and highlights the potential of instructional videos to bridge the gender gap in the subject.

Based on these findings, it is recommended that educators and policymakers consider integrating instructional videos into agricultural science classrooms as an effective teaching tool. The use of videos can enhance students' engagement, motivation, and achievement in practical agricultural science, promoting a more inclusive and effective learning environment.

Further research is encouraged to explore the long-term effects of instructional videos on students' agricultural science achievement and to investigate the factors that may influence the effectiveness of video-based instruction in different educational contexts.
