Abstract:
Burnout is a prevalent phenomenon that affects individuals in various domains of life, including marriage. Married individuals often face unique stressors that can contribute to burnout, leading to significant negative consequences for both the individual and the relationship. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Integrative Behavioural Couple Therapy (IBCT) and Logotherapy in reducing burnout experienced by married persons in Ibadan Metropolis.
The study will employ a mixed-methods research design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative approaches. A sample of married individuals experiencing burnout will be recruited from Ibadan Metropolis using purposive sampling techniques. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: IBCT, Logotherapy, or a wait-list control group. The IBCT group will receive therapy sessions focusing on improving communication, problem-solving, and relationship satisfaction. The Logotherapy group will engage in sessions aimed at exploring personal meaning and values in order to combat burnout. The control group will not receive any intervention during the study period.
Quantitative data will be collected through self-report measures such as the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Couples Satisfaction Index. Pre- and post-intervention assessments will be conducted to measure changes in burnout levels and relationship satisfaction. Qualitative data will be obtained through semi-structured interviews to provide in-depth insights into participants’ experiences.
Data analysis will involve the use of statistical techniques such as analysis of variance (ANOVA), paired t-tests, and thematic analysis for qualitative data. The results will be reported in terms of statistical significance, effect sizes, and qualitative themes.
It is hypothesized that both IBCT and Logotherapy will lead to a significant reduction in burnout levels and an improvement in relationship satisfaction compared to the control group. Findings from this study will contribute to the existing literature on the effectiveness of these therapeutic approaches in addressing burnout among married individuals.
