Background of the Study
Art education has been recognized as veritable tool for development of humans, societies, nations, and is in the recent times of global interest to achieving entrepreneurial objective among the undergraduates. This education is considered to be the process of acquiring learning through art activities and being able to express oneself in a manner considered being original and creative, by those who are artistically capable of judging the work. It refers to educational activity centered on the learner, for maximum self-development and fulfillment. It is further seen as the education that promotes artistic skill and self-development. The problem of entrepreneurship education is first associated with the diverse definitions it possesses by many. Entrepreneurial learning has recently emerged as a new practice involving both entrepreneurship and the tertiary education process. Cox (2005) observed that ‘a better theoretical grasp of entrepreneurial learning is imperative, as it is through learning that entrepreneurs develop and grow’. This explains why art students in the tertiary institutions may not totally embrace possible opportunities towards entrepreneurial development, unless there are strategic approaches, with the intent to diversify learning in addition to existing knowledge, especially among the art students.
Embroidery is the handicraft or decorating of fabric or other materials with needle or thread or yarn. It may also incorporate other materials such as pearls, beads, quills and sequins. It is available with a wild variety of thread or yarn color. By origin, the process used to tailor, patch, mend and reinforce cloth fostered the development of sewing techniques and the decorative possibilities of sewing led to the art of embroidery. The art of embroidery has been found worldwide and several early examples have been found. Embroidered works in China 2
have been dated to the 5th – 3rd century BC warring states period. Needlework generally is decorative sewing and textile arts handicrafts. Anything that uses a needle for construction can be called needlework. Needlework include related textile crafts such as crotchet worked with a hook, or tatting worked with a shuttle. Needlework types include; Needle lace, Quilting, Appliqué, Embroidery, Crotchet, Knitting, Tatting, Lucet, Braiding and Tassel making, Tapestry, Needlepoint, Bead Weaving either with loom or off-loom.
