DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A 3D POINT CLOUD TRANSMISSION AND VISUALIZATION

ABSTRACT

In recent years, 3D point clouds have been a popular alternative among academics due to the rising demand for 3D models with progressively high resolutions and the expense of processing high-resolution polygonal meshes. An in-depth study has been done in a number of point cloud-related fields. Three investigations on point cloud transmission and visualization are presented in this thesis. The first study develops a criterion to assess each layer's quality contribution to the decoding outcome of the 3D point-based model that has been progressively compressed. With this metric, the rendering quality of a 3D model that has been rebuilt declines more gently over time. A novel technique for adding 3D point cloud models to multi-viewpoint footage is suggested in the second study. This technique allows for the smooth integration of 3D point clouds into a multi-viewpoint video and It is possible to create a convincing effect. In the third study, a hierarchical RBF-based method for interactively visualizing 3D point clouds is presented. This enables users to render a Region of Interest (ROI) in a higher resolution without having to send the complete object.
