ABSTRACT

This case study examines the implementation and impact of inclusive education practices for students with hearing impairments in Nigerian schools. Recognizing the importance of equitable access to quality education, this research employs a mixed-methods approach, integrating surveys, interviews, and classroom observations. The study encompasses a diverse sample of students with varying degrees of hearing impairments across different educational settings in Nigeria. Findings reveal that inclusive education practices effectively address the unique learning needs of students with hearing impairments. Customized approaches, such as specialized instructional techniques, assistive technologies, and collaboration with specialized professionals (e.g., sign language interpreters, speech therapists), demonstrate significant improvements in academic achievement, communication skills, and overall learning experiences. Moreover, the study emphasizes the pivotal role of skilled and inclusive educators in creating an accessible and supportive learning environment. The research also identifies challenges in implementing inclusive education practices for students with hearing impairments, including limited access to specialized resources, the need for ongoing professional development for educators, and considerations for inclusive classroom design and acoustics.
