EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF CYBERBULLYING ON ADOLESCENT VICTIMS: A VICTIMOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Abstract:
Cyberbullying has emerged as a pervasive form of aggression within the digital age, affecting numerous adolescents worldwide. This abstract provides an overview of a research study that aims to explore the impact of cyberbullying on adolescent victims from a victimological perspective. By examining the psychological, emotional, and social consequences experienced by victims, this research seeks to shed light on the multifaceted nature of cyberbullying and its implications for adolescent well-being.

The study employs a victimological framework, which incorporates various theoretical perspectives and victim-centered approaches to understand the experiences and responses of cyberbullying victims. It recognizes that cyberbullying is a complex phenomenon influenced by individual, contextual, and technological factors, and aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of its impact on adolescent victims.

Through a mixed-methods approach, the research collects both quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data is obtained through self-report measures, allowing for the examination of the prevalence, frequency, and nature of cyberbullying incidents experienced by adolescents. Qualitative data is gathered through interviews or focus groups, enabling a deeper exploration of the lived experiences of victims, including their emotions, coping strategies, and perceived support systems.

The research aims to investigate various dimensions of victimization, including the psychological effects such as increased levels of anxiety, depression, and decreased self-esteem. It also explores the emotional toll of cyberbullying, examining feelings of fear, shame, and social isolation. Additionally, the study considers the social consequences of cyberbullying, including strained peer relationships, diminished social integration, and academic difficulties.

By adopting a victimological perspective, this research aims to inform prevention and intervention strategies targeted at cyberbullying. It recognizes the importance of providing support services tailored to the unique needs of cyberbullying victims, including counseling, peer support programs, and educational initiatives. The findings of this study contribute to the existing literature on cyberbullying, offering insights into the experiences of adolescent victims and providing recommendations for effective prevention and intervention strategies.
