A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE COMMAND METHOD AND THE LECTURE METHOD IN TEACHING PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Abstract:
Physical education plays a crucial role in promoting physical fitness, motor skills development, and overall well-being of students. Various teaching methods are employed to deliver effective physical education instruction. This comparative study aims to explore and evaluate the effectiveness of two prominent teaching methods: the Command Method and the Lecture Method in teaching physical education.
The Command Method emphasizes direct and explicit instructions given by the teacher, focusing on demonstrating and modeling specific skills and techniques. It often involves a structured and teacher-centered approach, where students follow instructions and perform tasks accordingly. The Lecture Method, on the other hand, emphasizes verbal communication and information dissemination by the teacher. It involves presenting subject matter through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
The study will employ a mixed-methods research design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. A sample of students from different educational institutions will be selected and divided into two groups: one group taught using the Command Method and the other using the Lecture Method. Pre- and post-tests will be conducted to assess students’ knowledge acquisition, skill development, and overall performance.
Quantitative data will be analyzed using statistical measures such as mean, standard deviation, and t-tests to compare the performance of students in both groups. Additionally, qualitative data will be gathered through observations, interviews, and student feedback to gain insights into students’ perceptions, engagement, and satisfaction with each teaching method.
The anticipated findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the comparative effectiveness of the Command Method and the Lecture Method in teaching physical education. The results will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on instructional strategies in physical education and guide educators in selecting appropriate teaching methods based on the desired learning outcomes.
