REDESIGNING THE PRODUCTION LAYOUT FOR IMPROVED FLOW AND REDUCED BOTTLENECKS.

Abstract:
In today’s competitive manufacturing environment, optimizing the production layout is crucial for enhancing operational efficiency, reducing bottlenecks, and improving overall productivity. This abstract proposes a study on redesigning the production layout to achieve improved workflow and reduced bottlenecks within a manufacturing facility.

The objective of this research is to identify and address the factors contributing to bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the current production layout. By analyzing the existing layout, process flow, and production data, potential areas for improvement will be identified. Various lean manufacturing principles, such as value stream mapping, 5S methodology, and cellular manufacturing, will be employed to optimize the flow of materials, equipment, and personnel.

The study will employ both quantitative and qualitative research methods, including data analysis, process observation, and interviews with key stakeholders. The data will be collected from the manufacturing facility under investigation, and relevant performance metrics, such as cycle time, lead time, and throughput, will be analyzed before and after the layout redesign.

The expected outcomes of this research include a redesigned production layout that enhances the flow of materials and reduces bottlenecks. By improving the overall efficiency and reducing wait times, the proposed layout will increase throughput and minimize idle resources, leading to enhanced productivity and reduced manufacturing costs. Additionally, the study aims to provide insights into the implementation challenges and strategies for successful layout redesign projects.

This research is expected to contribute to the body of knowledge on production layout optimization and provide practical recommendations for manufacturing organizations seeking to improve their operational performance. The findings of this study can serve as a valuable reference for managers, engineers, and practitioners involved in production planning, facility design, and process improvement initiatives.
