Abstract:
Reservoir characterization plays a vital role in understanding the behavior and potential of hydrocarbon-bearing formations. In this study, we propose a novel approach to determine the individual characteristics of a two-layered reservoir using the Time-Domain Spectroscopy (TDS) technique.

The TDS technique involves the analysis of electromagnetic wave reflections and transmissions in the reservoir system, providing valuable insights into the properties of the subsurface layers. By utilizing the TDS technique, we aim to accurately identify and characterize the individual layers present in a two-layered reservoir system.

The proposed methodology consists of the following steps:

Data Acquisition: Electromagnetic signals are transmitted through the reservoir using a controlled source. The reflected and transmitted signals are recorded using receivers strategically placed on the surface.

Data Processing and Analysis: The recorded signals are processed to extract the relevant information. The TDS technique enables the separation of the reflected signals from each layer, allowing for the characterization of their individual properties.

Inversion and Interpretation: The extracted data is subjected to inversion algorithms to estimate the physical properties of each layer, such as thickness, porosity, permeability, and fluid saturation. These properties are crucial for reservoir characterization and can provide valuable insights into its potential for hydrocarbon production.

Validation: The estimated properties are compared with well log data, core samples, and other available geological information to validate the accuracy and reliability of the results.

The proposed approach offers several advantages, including its non-destructive nature, cost-effectiveness, and ability to provide detailed information about each layer within a two-layered reservoir. This knowledge can aid in optimizing reservoir management strategies, such as well placement, drilling, and production planning.

To validate the effectiveness of the TDS technique, we conducted synthetic modeling and tested it on synthetic and real data sets. The results demonstrate the potential of the proposed approach in accurately determining the individual characteristics of a two-layered reservoir.

In conclusion, this study presents a novel application of the TDS technique for determining individual characteristics of a two-layered reservoir. The results obtained from this methodology can significantly contribute to improved reservoir characterization, leading to enhanced hydrocarbon recovery and more efficient reservoir management practices.
