INVESTIGATING THE IMPACT OF PRESSURE DEPLETION ON THE ESTIMATION OF RESERVES AND RECOVERY FACTORS IN NATURALLY FRACTURED RESERVOIRS

Abstract:
Naturally fractured reservoirs are characterized by complex fracture networks that significantly influence fluid flow behavior and hydrocarbon recovery. The estimation of reserves and recovery factors in such reservoirs is crucial for effective reservoir management and decision-making. However, the impact of pressure depletion on these estimations remains a topic of ongoing research and investigation.

This study aims to investigate the effects of pressure depletion on reserve estimation and recovery factors in naturally fractured reservoirs. The research combines analytical and numerical modeling techniques to simulate fluid flow behavior under varying pressure conditions. Additionally, field data from representative naturally fractured reservoirs are analyzed to validate the findings.

The investigation begins by developing a conceptual model of fluid flow in a naturally fractured reservoir, incorporating fracture properties, reservoir characteristics, and fluid properties. The model is then used to simulate reservoir behavior under different pressure depletion scenarios, considering various fracture geometries, connectivity, and matrix properties.

The research evaluates the impact of pressure depletion on key parameters such as effective permeability, fluid saturation, and recovery efficiency. It investigates how these parameters change as reservoir pressure decreases and assesses their influence on reserve estimation and recovery factor calculations.

The findings of this study contribute to a better understanding of the dynamic behavior of naturally fractured reservoirs under pressure depletion. The results highlight the importance of considering fracture properties and pressure effects when estimating reserves and recovery factors in such reservoirs.
