PRESSURE TRANSIENT ANALYSIS IN ANISOTROPIC COMPOSITE RESERVOIRS – A THREE DIMENSIONAL SEMI-ANALYTICAL APPROACH

Abstract:
Pressure transient analysis plays a crucial role in characterizing reservoir behavior and estimating reservoir properties. In the case of anisotropic composite reservoirs, which exhibit varying permeability and porosity in different directions, accurate analysis becomes more challenging. This abstract presents a three-dimensional semi-analytical approach for pressure transient analysis in anisotropic composite reservoirs.

The proposed method combines analytical solutions and numerical techniques to account for the anisotropic nature of the reservoir. It considers the heterogeneity in permeability and porosity in different directions and incorporates this information into the analysis. By incorporating the anisotropic behavior, the proposed approach provides a more comprehensive understanding of the reservoir dynamics.

The semi-analytical approach utilizes existing analytical solutions for isotropic reservoirs as a starting point. It then modifies these solutions by introducing appropriate correction functions to account for the anisotropic behavior. The incorporation of these correction functions allows for a more accurate representation of the pressure transient response in anisotropic composite reservoirs.

The three-dimensional nature of the approach enables the consideration of reservoir behavior in multiple directions, providing insights into vertical and horizontal permeability variations. The numerical implementation of the method involves discretizing the reservoir into a grid system and solving the governing equations using appropriate numerical techniques.

The proposed approach offers several advantages over traditional numerical simulation methods. It provides a computationally efficient solution while maintaining accuracy, making it suitable for practical reservoir engineering applications. Additionally, it offers insights into the anisotropic behavior of composite reservoirs, aiding in reservoir characterization and optimization of production strategies.

To validate the proposed approach, synthetic and field case studies are conducted. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the three-dimensional semi-analytical approach in capturing the pressure transient behavior in anisotropic composite reservoirs. The method’s accuracy and efficiency make it a valuable tool for reservoir engineers and researchers involved in reservoir characterization and management.

In conclusion, this abstract presents a three-dimensional semi-analytical approach for pressure transient analysis in anisotropic composite reservoirs. The proposed method incorporates the anisotropic behavior of the reservoir and provides accurate and efficient solutions. It offers valuable insights into reservoir dynamics, aiding in reservoir characterization and optimization of production strategies in anisotropic composite reservoirs.
