Abstract:
The efficient removal of drilled cuttings from deviated wellbores is a critical aspect of drilling operations. The transport of cuttings is influenced by various factors, including well deviation, fluid rheology, and flow rate. In this study, a graphical evaluation approach is proposed to assess cuttings transport in deviated wells, specifically using the Bingham plastic fluid model.

The Bingham plastic model is widely used to describe the rheological behavior of drilling fluids, which exhibit a yield stress and a linear relationship between shear stress and shear rate once the yield stress is exceeded. By incorporating this fluid model, the graphical evaluation method aims to provide a practical and intuitive tool for analyzing cuttings transport in deviated wells.

The proposed approach involves constructing a graphical representation of the critical flow velocity, known as the slip velocity, as a function of inclination angle and fluid properties. The slip velocity represents the minimum fluid velocity required to initiate the movement of cuttings. By comparing the actual fluid velocity in the wellbore with the slip velocity, the graphical evaluation method enables the identification of regions prone to cuttings accumulation or settling.

The graphical evaluation of cuttings transport in deviated wells using the Bingham plastic fluid model offers several advantages. Firstly, it provides a visual representation of the expected cuttings transport behavior, aiding the understanding of critical zones.
