STATISTICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF PERFORMANCE OF BIOPOLYMER DRILL-IN FLUID FOR DIFFERENT RHEOLOGICAL MODELS

Abstract:
Drill-in fluids play a crucial role in the drilling process of oil and gas wells, serving as a medium to transport drilled cuttings to the surface while maintaining wellbore stability. Biopolymer-based drill-in fluids, formulated using natural polymers, have gained significant attention due to their environmental compatibility and excellent rheological properties. However, the performance of these fluids is highly influenced by their rheological behavior, which can vary depending on the selected rheological model.

This study aims to statistically characterize the performance of a biopolymer drill-in fluid under different rheological models. Three commonly used rheological models, namely the Bingham plastic model, Herschel-Bulkley model, and power law model, are considered for the analysis. Experimental data on the biopolymer drill-in fluid’s rheological properties, including yield stress, apparent viscosity, and flow behavior index, are collected using standard laboratory techniques.

The statistical analysis involves fitting each rheological model to the experimental data and evaluating the goodness of fit using appropriate statistical techniques. The accuracy of each model in predicting the fluid’s behavior under varying shear rates and temperatures is assessed. Additionally, the influence of biopolymer concentration, salt content, and other pertinent drilling parameters on the fluid’s performance is investigated.

The results of the statistical analysis provide valuable insights into the suitability of different rheological models for characterizing the performance of biopolymer drill-in fluids. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the fluid’s behavior under diverse operational conditions, aiding in the optimization of drilling operations and the selection of appropriate drilling fluid formulations.
