PRESSURE ANALYSIS OF A WELL WITH AN INCLINED ASYMMETRIC HYDRAULIC FRACTURE

Abstract:
The successful extraction of hydrocarbon resources from unconventional reservoirs heavily relies on the efficient stimulation of wells using hydraulic fracturing techniques. Hydraulic fracturing involves the creation of fractures in the reservoir rock to enhance fluid flow and increase production rates. In this study, we investigate the pressure behavior of a well with an inclined asymmetric hydraulic fracture.

The analysis focuses on understanding the complex fluid flow dynamics and pressure distribution within the fractured reservoir. The asymmetric nature of the fracture geometry introduces additional complexities, as the fracture is inclined rather than vertically oriented. The inclination angle of the fracture significantly influences the fluid flow patterns and pressure distribution along the wellbore.

To study the pressure behavior, a mathematical model incorporating the governing equations of fluid flow in fractured reservoirs is developed. The model accounts for the effects of fracture geometry, fluid properties, and reservoir characteristics. Numerical simulations are conducted to analyze the pressure distribution at different stages of well production, considering various fracture orientations and reservoir conditions.

The results of the pressure analysis provide valuable insights into the behavior of a well with an inclined asymmetric hydraulic fracture. The study reveals the impact of fracture inclination on fluid flow patterns and pressure distribution, highlighting the importance of fracture characterization and optimization in maximizing well productivity. The findings also contribute to the understanding of fracture-driven interactions between multiple wells in a reservoir, aiding in the development of effective reservoir management strategies.

The outcomes of this research have significant implications for the design and optimization of hydraulic fracturing operations in unconventional reservoirs. By gaining a better understanding of the pressure behavior in wells with inclined asymmetric fractures, operators can make informed decisions regarding fracture placement, well spacing, and production strategies, ultimately leading to improved hydrocarbon recovery and economic viability.
