THE IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS ON YOUTH PEER RECOVERY SUPPORT IN NIGERIA

Abstract:
This study investigates the influence of environmental factors on the effectiveness of youth peer recovery support in Nigeria. Youth peer recovery support refers to the assistance provided by individuals who have successfully overcome substance abuse or addiction to their peers who are in the process of recovery. The study aims to identify and analyze the environmental factors that can either facilitate or hinder the provision and utilization of peer recovery support among Nigerian youth.

The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A sample of Nigerian youth in recovery from substance abuse will be selected, and data will be collected on their experiences of peer support, socio-demographic characteristics, and the environmental factors they encounter during their recovery journey. The research will also include interviews with key stakeholders, such as peer support providers, treatment professionals, and policymakers, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the environmental context.

The environmental factors under investigation include social support networks, stigma and discrimination, availability of resources and treatment services, and the cultural and socio-economic context. The study will explore how these factors influence the accessibility, effectiveness, and sustainability of youth peer recovery support programs in Nigeria.

The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on youth recovery support by shedding light on the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Nigerian youth in their recovery journey. The research aims to generate evidence-based recommendations for policymakers, treatment providers, and peer support organizations to enhance the environmental conditions that support successful recovery among Nigerian youth.

Understanding the impact of environmental factors on youth peer recovery support is crucial for designing and implementing effective interventions that address the specific needs of young people in Nigeria. By identifying barriers and facilitators, this study can inform the development of tailored strategies and policies that promote a supportive and enabling environment for youth in recovery, ultimately improving their chances of sustained sobriety and overall well-being.
