AN EVALUATION OF WOMEN WITH PHYSICAL IMPAIRMENT SURVIVING SEXUAL VIOLENCE: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL INQUIRY

Abstract:
Sexual violence against women with physical impairments is a significant issue with far-reaching consequences. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of women with physical impairments who have survived sexual violence, using a phenomenological inquiry approach. By delving into the unique perspectives and narratives of these women, this research seeks to shed light on their subjective experiences, challenges faced, coping mechanisms employed, and support systems utilized.

The study will employ qualitative research methods, including in-depth interviews and thematic analysis, to capture rich and detailed accounts of the participants’ experiences. A purposive sampling technique will be used to select a diverse group of women with physical impairments who have encountered sexual violence, ensuring representation across various impairments, age groups, and cultural backgrounds.

The findings from this study will provide valuable insights into the specific vulnerabilities and needs of women with physical impairments who have survived sexual violence. It will contribute to the existing literature by highlighting the intersectionality of gender and disability, while also exploring the nuances of navigating trauma and accessing support services in this population.

The implications of this research extend to various stakeholders, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, and support service providers. By understanding the unique challenges faced by these women, appropriate interventions and support systems can be developed to address their specific needs, promote their recovery, and prevent further victimization.

This study recognizes the importance of giving voice to marginalized populations and aims to empower women with physical impairments who have survived sexual violence by centering their experiences. It is hoped that the findings will foster empathy, sensitivity, and inclusivity within society, leading to greater awareness, support, and advocacy for the rights and well-being of women with physical impairments who have endured sexual violence.
