Abstract:

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Early identification and prediction of individuals at risk for developing CVDs are crucial for implementing preventive strategies and improving patient outcomes. Clinical pathology markers have emerged as valuable tools for assessing the risk and predicting the onset of cardiovascular events. This abstract provides an overview of the key clinical pathology markers commonly used in the prediction of CVDs.

Several traditional risk factors, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and obesity, have long been recognized as significant predictors of CVDs. However, clinical pathology markers offer additional insights into disease pathogenesis and risk assessment. Biomarkers such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), fibrinogen, and lipoprotein(a) have shown promise in predicting cardiovascular events. Elevated levels of these markers indicate increased systemic inflammation, abnormal coagulation activity, and proatherogenic processes.

Furthermore, cardiac-specific biomarkers, including troponins, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), have proven valuable in diagnosing and predicting heart failure, a common cardiovascular condition. In recent years, advancements in omics technologies have expanded the repertoire of clinical pathology markers for CVD prediction. Genomic markers, such as single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with CVD risk, can aid in identifying individuals predisposed to cardiovascular events. Similarly, metabolomic and proteomic markers offer insights into metabolic dysregulation and protein alterations associated with CVD pathophysiology.

In conclusion, clinical pathology markers play a crucial role in predicting cardiovascular diseases. By integrating traditional risk factors with biomarkers reflecting inflammation, coagulation, cardiac injury, and genetic predisposition, a comprehensive risk assessment can be achieved.
