Abstract:
The aim of this study is to investigate post-retirement satisfaction among Nigerian workers, focusing on the comparison between teachers and non-teachers. Retirement is a significant life transition that can have a profound impact on an individual's overall well-being and satisfaction. Understanding the factors that contribute to post-retirement satisfaction is crucial for policymakers, employers, and individuals themselves to develop effective strategies and interventions to enhance the well-being of retirees.
This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys, to gather comprehensive data on post-retirement satisfaction. The sample consists of retired teachers and non-teachers from various regions in Nigeria. Qualitative interviews will provide in-depth insights into the experiences, challenges, and sources of satisfaction among retirees, while the quantitative surveys will allow for the measurement of various factors influencing post-retirement satisfaction.
The study will explore several dimensions of post-retirement satisfaction, including financial security, social support, health and well-being, leisure activities, and engagement in volunteer work or part-time employment. It will also examine the differences and similarities in the experiences of retired teachers and non-teachers in these dimensions.
The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on post-retirement satisfaction and provide valuable insights specifically tailored to the Nigerian context. The results will highlight the unique challenges faced by retired teachers and non-teachers and identify potential areas for improvement in retirement policies and support mechanisms. This research will have implications for policymakers in developing strategies to enhance post-retirement satisfaction and overall well-being among Nigerian workers.
