Abstract:
Indigenous technology education plays a vital role in fostering national development by harnessing the unique knowledge, skills, and resources of a country's indigenous population. In the case of Nigeria, a country rich in diverse cultures and traditions, promoting indigenous technology education can serve as a powerful catalyst for sustainable development and economic growth.
This paper provides an abstract analysis of the significance of promoting indigenous technology education in Nigeria as a panacea for national development. It highlights the potential benefits and challenges associated with integrating indigenous knowledge systems into the formal education system and explores strategies to effectively implement and sustain such initiatives.
The incorporation of indigenous technology education in the Nigerian educational system can contribute to several key areas of national development. Firstly, it helps preserve and promote the country's rich cultural heritage, ensuring that traditional knowledge and skills are passed down from one generation to another. This preservation of cultural identity contributes to national unity and social cohesion.
Secondly, indigenous technology education empowers local communities by providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary to leverage their natural resources and traditional practices for sustainable development.
