Abstract:
This study examines the impact of peer-grouping on juvenile delinquent behaviors within the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria. Juvenile delinquency is a pressing social issue that has detrimental effects on individuals, families, and society as a whole. Understanding the factors that contribute to juvenile delinquency is essential for developing effective intervention strategies.

The research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing a survey questionnaire to collect data from a sample of juveniles residing in Ajeromi Ifelodun. The sample consists of both delinquent and non-delinquent juveniles, with a focus on the influence of peer-grouping on delinquent behaviors. The questionnaire gathers information on demographic characteristics, peer-grouping patterns, and engagement in delinquent activities.

The findings of this study will be analyzed using statistical methods, such as regression analysis, to explore the relationship between peer-grouping and juvenile delinquency. It is expected that the results will provide insights into the extent to which peer-grouping contributes to delinquent behaviors among juveniles in the study area.

The study aims to contribute to the existing literature on juvenile delinquency by providing empirical evidence specific to the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area. The findings will inform policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders involved in youth development and crime prevention programs, enabling them to design targeted interventions that address the role of peer-grouping in reducing delinquent behaviors.

The research also has implications for understanding the broader social context within which delinquent behaviors manifest. By examining the influence of peer-grouping, the study contributes to the understanding of how social relationships and peer dynamics impact juvenile delinquency. This knowledge can be used to develop preventive strategies that promote positive peer influences and discourage engagement in delinquent activities.

Overall, this study seeks to generate knowledge that can be applied to the development of evidence-based policies and programs aimed at reducing juvenile delinquency in Ajeromi Ifelodun and potentially in similar communities. By addressing the root causes of delinquency, including the role of peer-grouping, it is hoped that the study will contribute to the creation of safer and more supportive environments for the youth in Lagos State, Nigeria.
