Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the influence of teachers' variables on basic school Home-Economics students' knowledge of sustainable development in Lagos State. Sustainable development has become a crucial aspect of education, and teachers play a vital role in imparting knowledge and shaping students' understanding of sustainability issues. Therefore, understanding the factors that influence teachers' effectiveness in promoting sustainable development knowledge among students is essential for educational planning and policy development.
The study adopts a quantitative research design, utilizing a structured questionnaire to collect data from Home-Economics teachers in basic schools across Lagos State. The questionnaire focuses on teachers' variables, including their level of education, teaching experience, professional training in sustainable development, and pedagogical practices. The students' knowledge of sustainable development is assessed based on their performance in Home-Economics assessments and tests specifically related to sustainability concepts.
The data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, including correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into the relationship between teachers' variables and students' knowledge of sustainable development. It will help identify the specific teacher characteristics and pedagogical practices that are most influential in fostering students' understanding of sustainability concepts.
The results of this study will have implications for teacher training programs, curriculum development, and instructional strategies in Home-Economics education. By identifying the key variables that influence teachers' effectiveness, policymakers and educators can develop targeted interventions and professional development programs to enhance teachers' capacity to promote sustainable development knowledge among students.
