Abstract:
This study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of teachers' sense of efficacy beliefs among pre-service home economics teachers in the South-West region of Nigeria. Teacher efficacy, which refers to teachers' beliefs in their ability to positively impact student learning outcomes, is a crucial factor in effective teaching practices. Understanding the psychometric properties of teachers' sense of efficacy beliefs is vital for developing targeted interventions and improving teacher education programs.

The study employed a quantitative research design. A sample of pre-service home economics teachers (N = X) from various teacher training institutions in the South-West region of Nigeria was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The Teachers' Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) was used to measure teachers' efficacy beliefs. The TSES is a validated instrument that assesses teachers' beliefs in their instructional capabilities, student engagement, and classroom management.

Data collected through the TSES were subjected to rigorous psychometric analysis. The reliability of the scale was assessed using internal consistency measures such as Cronbach's alpha. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were conducted to examine the construct validity of the scale. Additionally, concurrent validity was examined by correlating the TSES scores with other relevant measures, such as academic performance and self-efficacy in teaching.

The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on teacher efficacy beliefs in the Nigerian context, specifically within the home economics discipline. The psychometric analysis will provide insights into the reliability and validity of the TSES instrument when used with pre-service home economics teachers. The results will help identify areas of strength and areas that may require improvement in pre-service teacher education programs.

The implications of this study can inform policy and practice in teacher education and professional development. By identifying the factors that influence teachers' sense of efficacy, educational stakeholders can design targeted interventions to enhance pre-service home economics teachers' efficacy beliefs. This, in turn, can contribute to the improvement of teaching quality, student engagement, and academic performance in the South-West region of Nigeria.
