Abstract:
The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly impacted education, transforming traditional learning methods and introducing innovative approaches. One such technological advancement is the availability of digital educational databases, which offer vast amounts of academic resources and materials to support learning and research. This study aims to investigate the awareness and use of digital educational databases among final year students in selected private universities in Southwest Nigeria.

The research employed a quantitative research design, utilizing a structured questionnaire as the primary data collection instrument. A purposive sampling technique was employed to select three private universities in the Southwest region. The final year students from the selected universities constituted the target population. The sample size consisted of 300 final year students, and data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire.

The findings of the study revealed that a majority of the final year students in the selected private universities were aware of the existence of digital educational databases. However, the level of awareness varied among the students. The study further highlighted that although awareness was high, the utilization of digital educational databases among final year students was relatively low. Factors such as limited access to reliable internet connectivity, lack of training on database utilization, and inadequate promotion and integration of digital databases by the universities were identified as key barriers to effective utilization.

The study recommends that private universities in Southwest Nigeria should prioritize the integration of digital educational databases into their curriculum and provide adequate training and support to students on their usage. Additionally, efforts should be made to improve internet connectivity within the university campuses and promote awareness campaigns to highlight the benefits and importance of digital educational databases.

The findings of this study contribute to the existing literature, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and utilization of digital educational databases among final year students in private universities. The results provide valuable insights for educational institutions, policymakers, and database providers to enhance the accessibility and effectiveness of digital educational databases in the Nigerian higher education context.
