Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the impact of learner support services on students' motivation to learn in the Ogun State Study Centres of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). As an open and distance learning institution, NOUN provides a variety of learner support services to assist students in their educational journey. This research seeks to understand how these support services influence students' motivation to learn.
The study will employ a mixed-methods research design, integrating qualitative and quantitative approaches. A survey questionnaire will be administered to a representative sample of NOUN students enrolled in Ogun State Study Centres, capturing their perceptions of learner support services and their level of motivation to learn. Additionally, in-depth interviews will be conducted with a subset of students and NOUN staff members to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences and perspectives surrounding learner support services.
The data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and thematic analysis. The findings will provide insights into the specific learner support services that have a significant impact on students' motivation to learn. Furthermore, the study will explore the underlying factors that contribute to the effectiveness of these support services, as well as any potential barriers or challenges faced by students in accessing and utilizing them.
The results of this study will have several implications for educational institutions, policymakers, and practitioners involved in open and distance learning. By understanding the impact of learner support services on students' motivation to learn, educational institutions can enhance the design and delivery of these services to better cater to students' needs. This research will contribute to the existing literature on learner support services and student motivation, particularly within the context of open and distance learning in Nigeria.
