ABSTRACT

This research project aims to explore strategies for improving the functionality of Business Studies at the basic education level in Abia State, Nigeria. Business Studies serves as a fundamental subject that equips students with essential skills and knowledge for entrepreneurship and economic development. However, there is a need to enhance the functionality and effectiveness of Business Studies education. This study seeks to identify strategies for improving the functionality of Business Studies, assess the current state of Business Studies education in Abia State, explore challenges faced in implementing effective Business Studies education, and propose recommendations for enhancing the functionality of Business Studies at the basic education level.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and document analysis to collect data from educators, students, parents, and educational policymakers in Abia State. The research objectives include identifying strategies for improving the functionality of Business Studies, assessing the current state of Business Studies education, exploring challenges in implementing effective Business Studies education, and proposing recommendations for enhancing the functionality of Business Studies.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into strategies for improving the functionality of Business Studies at the basic education level. The research will identify effective strategies, such as curriculum development, instructional methodologies, teacher training, integration of technology, and industry collaborations, to enhance the teaching and learning experiences in Business Studies classrooms. Additionally, the study will assess the current state of Business Studies education in Abia State, considering factors such as curriculum content, teaching resources, teacher qualifications, and student engagement. Furthermore, the research will explore challenges faced in implementing effective Business Studies education, including limited resources, lack of teacher training, and inadequate infrastructure. Based on the findings, recommendations will be proposed for enhancing the functionality of Business Studies, encompassing curriculum reform, professional development programs, resource allocation, and policy interventions.

The implications of this research extend to educators, students, parents, educational policymakers, and curriculum developers.
