Abstract:
Sex education plays a crucial role in promoting healthy sexual behaviour, preventing unwanted pregnancies, and reducing the risk of sexually transmitted infections among adolescents. The attitudes of students towards sex education can significantly influence their learning outcomes and overall sexual health. This study aims to investigate the relationship between family background and the learning attitudes of students towards sex education in Abia State, Nigeria.
The research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing a structured questionnaire to collect data from a representative sample of students in secondary schools across Abia State. The questionnaire measures various aspects of family background, such as parental education level, socioeconomic status, family communication patterns, and parental attitudes towards sex education. Additionally, the questionnaire assesses students' learning attitudes towards sex education, including their interest, engagement, and perceived relevance of the subject.
The collected data will be statistically analyzed using appropriate techniques, including correlation and regression analyses, to explore the relationship between family background and learning attitudes towards sex education. The findings will provide insights into the influence of family background factors on students' attitudes and receptiveness to sex education.
The study's results will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on sex education in Nigeria, specifically in Abia State, by highlighting the role of family background in shaping students' attitudes towards this important topic. The findings may inform educational policymakers, curriculum developers, and educators on the potential strategies to improve sex education programs and enhance student engagement.
It is anticipated that the study will reveal significant associations between family background variables and students' learning attitudes towards sex education. Such findings could emphasize the importance of involving parents and family in sex education initiatives to create a supportive and conducive learning environment for students.
