Abstract:
Effective inventory management is crucial for the smooth operation of any organization, including public tertiary educational institutions. Inventory management practices play a vital role in ensuring that the right quantity of materials is available at the right time, minimizing costs, and improving overall operational efficiency. This study aims to assess the extent of application of inventory management practices by stores officers in public tertiary educational institutions in South-East Nigeria.
The research follows a quantitative approach, utilizing a survey questionnaire to collect data from stores officers responsible for inventory management in public tertiary educational institutions. The questionnaire focuses on various aspects of inventory management, including demand forecasting, procurement, storage, stock control, and record-keeping.
The sample for this study consists of stores officers from a selection of public tertiary educational institutions in the South-East region of Nigeria. Data analysis will be conducted using statistical techniques such as frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, and inferential statistics.
The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the current state of inventory management practices in public tertiary educational institutions in South-East Nigeria. It will help identify areas of strength and weakness in inventory management and highlight potential areas for improvement. The results can assist institutions in developing strategies to enhance inventory management practices, leading to better resource utilization, cost reduction, and improved service delivery.
