AN EVALUATION OF MICROSYSTEM INTERACTION AS A PREDICTOR OF SUICIDAL BEHAVIOUR AMONG IN-SCHOOL ADOLESCENTS IN SOUTHEAST EAST, NIGERIA
Abstract:
Suicidal behavior among adolescents is a significant public health concern with potentially devastating consequences. This study aims to investigate the role of microsystem interaction as a predictor of suicidal behavior among in-school adolescents in Southeast East, Nigeria.
The study will employ a quantitative research design, utilizing a cross-sectional survey to collect data from a representative sample of in-school adolescents in the target region. A structured questionnaire will be used to assess microsystem interactions, including family dynamics, peer relationships, school environment, and community support. Additionally, standardized measures will be employed to evaluate suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and associated risk factors.
The sample will consist of participants aged 12 to 18 years, recruited from various secondary schools within the Southeast East region of Nigeria. Data will be analyzed using statistical techniques such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and logistic regression.
The research aims to explore the potential associations between microsystem interactions and suicidal behavior in adolescents. By examining the influence of family, peers, school, and community on adolescent mental health, the study seeks to identify risk factors and protective factors associated with suicidal behavior. Findings from this study will contribute to the development of targeted prevention strategies and intervention programs that can effectively address the mental health needs of in-school adolescents in Southeast East, Nigeria.
The research findings will have implications for policymakers, educators, mental health professionals, and community stakeholders involved in adolescent mental health promotion and suicide prevention. It is hoped that the study's outcomes will provide valuable insights into the factors contributing to suicidal behavior and help inform the development of evidence-based interventions and support systems to mitigate the prevalence of suicide among in-school adolescents in the region.
