The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on various sectors worldwide, including the education sector. In Nigeria, the primary education sector has faced significant challenges in managing the disruptions caused by the pandemic. This abstract provides an overview of the issues and challenges encountered in the management of the Nigerian primary education sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The closure of schools as a preventive measure against the spread of COVID-19 has resulted in a disruption of the traditional classroom learning environment. This abrupt shift from face-to-face instruction to remote learning has posed considerable challenges for both educators and students. Limited access to technology, particularly in rural areas, has hindered the effective implementation of remote learning strategies. The lack of infrastructure, such as reliable electricity and internet connectivity, further exacerbates the digital divide and unequal access to education.
Additionally, the closure of schools has had a detrimental impact on the overall well-being of students. Many children rely on schools not only for education but also for nutrition and social interaction.
